In the kitchen, for instance, it is wise to keep paper and cloth at a minimum of three feet away from the stove, whether you use gas or electric for your cooking. When you prepare a meal, push up your sleeves, and make sure any apron strings or clothing is secured. Also, put long hair in a ponytail. If you grill more than you cook, make sure the grill is a minimum of ten feet away from the house, as well as anything else that may catch fire. You should also watch the stove or grill while you're using it. You should not leave the kitchen while you're cooking.
